The Power of Music

Programs like American Idol and Making of the Band allow the average young person the chance to fulfill their lifetime musical dreams. But getting the opportunity to be on these programs and express their talents are extremely slim. At-Risk youth, specifically, do not have recording facilities readily available in their neighborhoods to positively showcase these talents. And inspiration without expression leads to frustration.
The goal of Life Power Music Mentoring is to allow young people to express themselves musically within the recording studio. But making beats and writing songs are just a small part of the equation. Teens today struggle with making positive choices for their lives. Peer pressure has never been greater and all the tools that assist in living negatively – gangs, casual sex, drugs, alcohol, etc. - are readily available. Teens with a sense of purpose in life have the power to fulfill their God-given destiny. Those without a sense of life purpose are powerless and ripe for failure. Life Power aims to empower young people, via the channels of music, with the tools to discover themselves, thus sending them on the path to discover their purpose.

The Process
The program consists of 8 to 10 sessions lasting around 4 to 5 hours each. Each session begins with a central theme. The central theme will guide us through our discussions and music creation. Students will complete various exercises such as freestyle writing, song and concept creation, audio software instruction, recording and engineering lessons. Students will also be given a crash course on music copyrighting, publishing, marketing, promotion, and general music business. Students that complete the course will be given materials that teach about the music industry, self-improvement materials, and software for home recording and editing. Students will also leave with the completed songs they have conceived, written, produced, recorded, and mixed.

The Goal
We expect students that complete the Life Power Music Mentoring courses to have an in-depth understanding of creating music, the music industry, and most importantly, themselves. Life Power aims to develop character, boost self-esteem, and challenge negative thinking. In addition, youth learn audio engineering skills, work with professional audio equipment, practice vocal and/or rapping techniques, and learn the basics of the music industry.

Founder

Sean Slaughter has traveled nationally and internationally for the last 10 years performing with passion, revealing the truth, and having fun doing it. He loves his ministry to young people because he understands their struggles and frustrations. His latest album, Man on Fire, challenges listeners to be people on fire, bringing the light and the passion of Christ to the world they live in.
Sean, son of Integrity recording artist Alvin Slaughter, grew up in a Christian household but hated church. Instead of following in the family's footsteps, Sean chose the thug life. He was an excellent athlete, receiving a full scholarship worth $100,000 to the University of Rhode Island, but failed out of school because of his party lifestyle. Soon after, Sean attended the Institute of Audio Research in NY, receiving his audio engineer diploma. His production credits include 4 tracks for the extended members of the Wu-Tang Clan. In 1999 Sean, dedicated his life to Jesus Christ and uses his music to penetrate the hearts of young people all over the world.
Sean currently attends Regent University and is less than one year away from receiving his B.A. in Organizational Leadership and Management. Sean has an audio engineering degree from the Institute of Audio Research located in New York City.
